The Beauty of Nothing

Hardcover book with Japanese maple leaves sitting on a white table.
Cover concept for a work in progress: The Beauty of Nothing

Featuring soothing nature photography and heavily designed throughout, this project is intended to be a visual meditation on non-attachment for sensitive, creative folks.

Most of the text has been written and I’ve gathered a few hundred more photos than I probably need. I’ve designed about half the book so far, but continue to refine the copy as I work through the photo editing and layout design.

The images below provide a hint of what’s to come.

There isn’t a way things should be. There’s just what happens,
and what we do.

– Terry Pratchett

The PPD Book

Book cover with woman behind a cloud. Subject: Postpartum Depression. Title: it wasn't supposed to be like this.

I wrote this when my son was very young, as a way to cope with the darkness and exhaustion I experienced as a new parent.

I didn’t actually publish it as a book until much later, when I was in a very different and (thankfully) a more serene and well-rested place.

Black and White Photography

Many of these images will be featured in The Beauty of Nothing. Some are hanging on a gallery wall or in my mother’s house. I will probably add a larger portfolio page here at some point, I just need to figure out how to mange the absurd volume of images.

Word Search for Creatives

small glimpse of a word search puzzle

Here’s a little peak at one of my in-progress works. I don’t know where the idea came from but I enjoy a good word search on occasion and I thought it would be fun to create one just for creative people.

The book includes puzzles on a wide variety of artistic topics as well as bios of lesser-known creatives, and inspiring quotes to keep me and my maker friends motivated.
